From A Heart That is Broken But Still Beating
By Darla Ebert
Unseen an Enemy stands citadel
Unnoticed, unbidden, unheard
It reigns with a strength incalculable
Tolling its sad lonely dirge.
Reigns and laughs and sneers at the music
My clay-hardened heart tries to sing
And my heart falls silent before it
Like a musical bird without wings.
Yet a sound at a distance drifts onward
Sweetly insistent, profound
Approaching with melody resistant
With power it swells all unbound.
Can God's music drown out the blackness
Can darkness penetrate Light?
Light pierces fathomless Night-ness
Tunes our heart-strings to put Sadness to Flight.
